“Triple Entendre”

I feel a little less tongue-tied.
The bright blue ribbons that bind thought
to brain–far from the caresses of easy speech–
are frayed and ready to snap;
yet, I remain mostly silent.

As you brew coffee, your cat climbs into my lap,
but only for a moment. You pour coffee only for yourself
and sit near me, knee nearly touching the heel
of my black go-go boot.

I wonder if I should reach for you, but then, I want to touch you
in ways you might appreciate. I want you to know
your world enriches mine; your creativity is electric
and attractive, something tangible that makes me wish
I could inspire you in turn.

I hold my body from you as we hug goodbye;
I want you–it makes me shy and self-conscious
(yet almost audacious enough to do something about it)–
but I want us to touch in other ways as well.

I wish unicorns
could purify my water.
Alas, they cannot.

2011: Day 3

Autumn clings to trees:
fire tangled in winter,
waiting for the fall.

My Dearest Neighbor:
kindly ensure your pit bull
cannot jump the fence.

2011: Day 1

From the neon woods:
pink tinsel; peacock feathers;
bright lights; plastic snow.
